After the invasion he decided to stay on the farm with his brother and his family. Sometime later a group of men killed his sister-in-law while robbing the house. His brother decided that was the world they lived in now, and needed to steal to survive.
Two years later he ambushed the Masons while they were looking for Anne Glass and Alexis Glass-Mason. When Ben Mason attempted to steal Steve Pickett's rifle, Duane showed Ben that Gil was holding Matt Mason at gunpoint, forcing Ben to relent. The Masons tracked them back to their house where they attempted to quietly subdue the family. While Gil was walking around he thought he heard Duane. He saw Hal Mason and drew his knife, the two began to struggle and Gil almost overpowered Hal when Matt shot him in the back, as the others looked on in horror. Gil asked why he would do that. Ben and Steve carried him in and laid him on the bed to take care of him. When Steve told Duane that Gil was dying, he went up to him and told him he just needed to hang on, that he could make it. Gil then motioned with his eyes to a shotgun under the mattress. Duane took it out and captured the Masons again, however they eventually managed to get their weapons back and left.
When Tom Mason returned to warn the Pickett's about the approaching aliens they were nowhere to be found. It is unknown if Gil died from his wound.
